Our Teacher

Angeli Bayani received the title of Designated Meisner Teacher upon completion of her teacher training under Scott Trost, Executive Director of the Meisner Institute in L.A., USA.

She is a multi-award-winning actress and voice-over artist, best known for starring in art-house and independent films, such as Lav Diaz’ “Norte, the End of History” (2013) – an official entry to the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes International Film Festival – for which she won the 37th Gawad Urian Award for Best Actress. She also appeared in the Camera d’Or-winning Singaporean film “Ilo Ilo” (2013) by Anthony Chen, for which she was nominated as Best Actress at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival in 2013.

In 2008, Angeli received the Vic Silayan Award for Best Actress – International Category at the Dekada Cinemanila for her second Lav Diaz film, “Melancholia” (2008). Her film “Bagahe” (2017) by Zig Dulay earned her the Cinemalaya Balanghai Trophy for Best Actress and the Prix du Meilleur Rôle Féminin (Best Actress) at the 2018 Festival International du Film Transsaharien de Zagora, Morocco. At the 2016 CineFilipino Film Festival, Angeli won the Best Actress Award for “Ned’s Project” (2016) by Lem Lorca. In 2018, she won Best Supporting Actress for Lem Lorca’s “Maestra” (2017) at the 2nd EDDYS Awards. She was the Philippines’ National Winner - Best Actress at the 2020 Asian Academy Creative Awards for HBO’s “Food Lore: Island of Dreams”.

Angeli has also served as main jury in international film festivals such as the 14th Pacific Meridian Vladivostok International Film Festival, Russia in 2016; the 17th Tokyo FILMex International Film Festival, Japan in 2016; the 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival (Indian Language Cinema), India in 2017; the 6th Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival, Nepal in 2018; and the 32nd Singapore International Film Festival in 2021.

In local film festivals, she has served as main jury for the 10th Cinema One Originals in 2014; the 2nd SineNanay Short Film Festival in 2016; the 2nd Sine Kabataan Short Film Festival in 2018; the 3rd CineFilipino Film Festival in 2018; the 3rd Sine Kabataan Short Film Festival in 2019; the 3rd Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino Film Festival in 2019; and the 4th Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino in 2020.

She played Dr. Sara Patel in WGN America’s “Almost Paradise” (2020), Iniez in Arthur Harari’s “Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle” (2021), and Linda in Araceli Lemos’ “Holy Emy” (2021), which won First Feature Special Mention at the 74th Locarno Film Festival 2021.

She was hailed by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino as one of the Gawad URIAN Actors of the Decade 2010-2020.
